Awoo Tɔde, baba nawɛ loo.
Seeing a photograph of you brought back fond memories. I quite remember when you had finished secondary school and had gained admission into the University of Ghana, Legon. You sought my consent on whether to pursue medicine or law. Knowing very well that you were capable of pursuing either, I still encouraged you to study medicine since your brother, my late husband E.W.V.K Sengretsi Esquire of blessed memory, was a lawyer at the time.
You were a bit unsure seeing that you were going to spend seven years in medical school but I urged you on. You entered into medical school and came out successfully as the first doctor of the Sengretsi family and Wusuta, giving prestige to the family’s name.
A day I would never forget was when you brought a frog, “akpɔkplɔ” to the house. I asked what you were doing with the frog and you told me that you were practising how to perform an operation on it. I was terrified and run away from the scene. Anyways it survived.
One other day similar to that, you brought a skeleton to the house to study with. Naana, my late mother who came from the village on a visit, saw the skeleton and exclaimed amidst tears, “Whose child is this?”. In an attempt to comfort her, we made her cry even more.
You were always there for the family. You toiled so much, cared and shared so much, never did we think you would leave us so soon.
Ohh!! Tɔde, I cannot emphasize enough how I prayed for your recovery. I was hoping you would be alive to bury my late mother and I. Irrespective, I am proud of the man you became and I would never forget how incredibly grateful you were towards the support you had from me in your prime.
It has been a wonderful pleasure to have known you.
Zɔ nyuie dɛ.
