Tribute by Mother-in-Law

I got to know Seth in 1977 when my daughter brought him home one day to introduce him to me. He was a nice person so I welcomed him wholeheartedly. With time, he became my son-in-law and I treated him like my own son.

We had a good relationship. Each time he visited me in Tema on his way to visit his parents when they were alive, or whenever I visited the family in Kumasi, he would welcome me with a warm embrace.

On several occasions, we danced together, like at his father’s funeral and my 70th birthday at Akosombo.

I also remember a time when my B.P. was uncontrollable in spite of all the different medications I was given. I called him on phone and he prescribed some medicine for me. After a few days, my B.P. came to normal. That has been my drug ever since.

Seth was like my own son so when I heard about his sickness, I quickly left my place to come and help take care of him using my experience as a retired nurse. I thought it was something that was going to take a few weeks to resolve, but the weeks turned into months and the months turned into years.

We nursed him to the best of our abilities, taking turns at the hospital whenever he was on admission, to take care of his needs.

During those long years of sickness, we prayed and prayed and sought spiritual interventions, hoping for a miracle.

On that fateful day of your departure, I took you to the Ridge Hospital because my daughter wasn’t well. I watched as the doctors surrounded you and tried to save your life but later, you gave up the ghost and that left me in shock.

My son Seth, I will miss you but I believe you’re rejoicing with the angels above.

Rest in perfect peace.

Mummy, permit me to call you that, because, Seth was my mate and roommate at Legon Hall Annex. Our class of 1980 thanks you and your daughter for LOVE so shown to our brother and Colleague Seth. May God richly continue to bless the FAMILY.
